What Grows in Your Heart

· ·

“Alternative descriptions of the same reality evoke different emotions and different associations.”

Daniel Kahneman, Thinking. Fast and Slow

Last year was a year of upheaval for the entire world. This affected my practice as I listened to the unrest outside my studio. While trying to focus on creativity I found that the emotional toll was undeniable.

My work explores systems we use to make decisions. Many times I focus on the individual’s experience, yet I found the collective thought becoming a compelling subject matter. I created a series of prints about perspective and also how emotions drive decisions. As a multi-disciplinary artist, I also created an installation using the concepts of Deleuze and Guetteri about rhizomal patterns. Their theories suggest that collective thought, ergo social media, is spread through rhizome patterns. I find this intriguing as our society grapples with conspiracy, hatred, judgments based on emotions.
